About Explorers

Explorers - 14 - 18 years old

Welcome to The White Field Explorer Unit about page

Explorers are the fourth section of the Scouting movement.

Right from the time of Baden-Powell, there have been arrangements for young people who wanted to continue after their time in the Scout Section.

Explorer Scout units are managed by Districts, unlike the younger sections which are part of the groups.

However Explorers can enter Partnership agreements with a Scout Group, like this has done with 109th Scout Group.

As an Explorer Scout you will get the chance to take part in many activities either with your unit or with other Explorer Scouts from the District or Area. Many activities will be made available to you these may include, D of E, water or land based activities as well as continuing to participate in the progressive award scheme of Scouting.

Young Leaders Scheme

Young leader badgeThe Young Leaders’ Scheme is just one of the exciting programme elements in the Explorer Scout section. All leaders in the Beaver Scout, Cub Scout and Scout Section who are between the ages of 14 and 18 must be members of a Young Leaders Unit. They are Explorer Scouts who choose to devote a large proportion of their time in Scouting to service in another section.

The Young Leaders’ Scheme helps Explorer Scouts to develop and grow as individuals. It allows them to make a valuable contribution to their community and give service to others. The scheme also helps them fulfil the service elements of their awards.

Explorers moving on to Network / Leadership roles

When your son / daughter reaches 17 and a half, a leader will discuss options with them to see what they would like to do.
